Taking care of our own

A Message from the family: Markell Dobbs

In the early morning hours of July 19, 2025, my brother Montrell Dobbs was the victim of a hit-and-run on Watertown Avenue in Waterbury, CT. The accident left him with life-threatening injuries, including extensive internal bleeding, a broken pelvis, leg amputation, serious vision impairments and more. Doctors say there is no medical explanation for how he survived—truly, God intervened. Montrell is devoted father of two young daughters. Montrell has always been a pillar in his community—coaching youth football, mentoring young athletes share the same dream of making it to the NFL  he once had, and giving his all to others. His road to recovery will be long, he required extensive surgeries, and still needs rehabilitation, and adaptive care.

Since being released from the hospital, we have been focusing on adjusting him to life and helping him navigate the challenges that come with what he has been through. My brother has been the back bone of our family for a very long time because no matter what trials and tribulations life seemed to throw at him, he always stayed strong for his family and held everyone together as we overcame the obstacles. He was given the nickname Superman because to us that’s who he is. Now is our time to be strong just like he has always been for us.

“He was given the nickname Superman,

because to us that’s who he is.”
